So, last night's complete restore of my laptop went fine*, with the exception of forgetting the recent fonts I'd downloaded over this last month; not a huge loss.

*Until I get to trying to get online with my wireless card. When I initially got the computer, and for *years* to follow, I always had problems with it. Various tech-savvy friends of mine pitched in and were able to get it over a variety of different issues that cropped up over the years, until I got the last issues- with it dropping connectivity every 30 seconds for both the wired and the cabled connections- fixed in February of...this year? 2008? I forget, but Heow still has my thanks for that, as do Hudson and Quindar for preceding fixes.

Fixes which are all gone with restore-to-factory-settings status. I just spent about two hours on the phone with tech support that resulted in NO change, and the tech support guy being convinced I had the wrong network access key, despite the fact this key has worked last night, the previous two months we've had the router, and was currently working on my friend's Mac where we could see the actual numbers of the key as opposed to dots. He even had us delete them from her computer and re-type them in, which led to her internet STILL being fine, and him STILL not believing that I didn't have the correct one somehow.

He downloaded and installed two different driver packets to no avail, other than the a shiny new "internal consistency error" message in regards to the pci card that he assured me wasn't going to be a problem. (And who knows, maybe it won't.)

(Cabled still works fine, but I only have one cat5 long enough to reach the router downstairs, and my lacking-a-wireless-card desktop is hooked up to that one. And while it says the wireless is fully connected, it keeps looking for an IP address and not finding one, ever.)

ALSO, apparently the rumor that Dell has things like your Microsoft Office key isn't true, even though the tech I had out here for a hardware issue this morning said he thought that was right, and he's the third person I know who has told me this. (I could swear one of my friends said he had to call in to get his mother's info for the exact same thing within the last month or two, and was successful.) And despite having every other single CD that ever came with my computers, no recovery disks for Office are to be found. : P

So, annoyances. I think I may need to has Emambu to hassle Adam about this the next time he's in town. Also in giving me Rurouni Kenshin, which he must have in his collection.
