(no subject)
This got long so I slipped it behind a cut.
So, there's a story to be told about Lynati's great hunt for a real grocery store within walking distance...but it isn't an especially riveting tale and I can sum it up by saying that I've now crossed two more stores off my list in one day. It was a nice walk, though, and I was able to get a fair amount of what I needed so it wasn't a waste. And now I figure, if I walked 1.2 miles for that we-have-no-fresh-vegetables-or-english-muffins-and-are-a-tenth-the-size-you-expected Stop N Shop I can walk less than that for the Pathmark or the Shop Rite.
And the movie theater that's not that far down the road, for I have at least two movies I'd really like to see and a third which I'm told the special effects more or less make it worth the money to see on a big screen.
Yup, there is a bus that goes right up ridge. The stops each direction are just next to where my street meets Ridge, bonus.
Still haven't done near all of what I said I'd do this week, but I've made progress. Progress was mildly impeded by my decision to look up and read "one little fic" before I went to bed at about 2:40am.
Eight hours, yes EIGHT HOURS later I'm still reading. I was looking for listing of a certain pair and found a page with listings including them and others, and found some very tasty writers, including one who had a short fic that was so deliciously bittersweet that I felt moved to write and tell her that she'd just reminded me why I bother reading fanfic when so much of it out there is poorly done. She does a lot of plotty smut (and smutty plot, along with writing that is more relationship-driven and not always in a couple-y way), and is the only person I've only seen who has written Mpreg believably. (But then, I don't like/am not at all interested in Mpreg as a general rule so I've only read maybe one other such fic. Most descriptions of those stories alone are enough to make me wrinkle my nose and pass it by...but this one she wrote was just hysterical.)
I'm going to blame the earliness of the hour and the fact that one post was in her LJ under one handle and another set were linked in fanfiction.net under a completely different handle that I didn't realize that I was reading the same author for a couple of those stories (and actually dropped her a second line in feedback on ff.net) She writes a couple ships that I don't really follow- though she likes, er, three-man crews and I seem to be writing a lot of those lately- but of all the ships out there I'm mostly an Excellent Fanfic shipper (as it were), and I'm willing to ride THAT particular boat great distance.
She doesn't write the three that I've been drawn towards, and that fact has actually made me want to write something that parallels the two sets. Also, it indirectly inspired the smuttiest thing I have entertained to date. And the two stories could fit into the same universe, so I might cave and take a break from writing the fic series I've been writing to take a break from TGS- which I was writing to take a break from my original fic universe- to do a couple short stories.
(And that's aside from the Brooklyn-Delilah story I'm doing in response to a request.)
The other weird thing is, I could swear I encounted her LJ handle - TheNinjaKitty - somewhere before. I can't think of where. More writing in another genre/universe seems likely. Her posting on one of my friends' LJ's seem to coincidental, but possible. Devart is another place I might have run across her name. It bothers me that I can't place it, or even if the familiarity of it is coming across from some other association than her specifically.
Which is the winding way of saying I got up after only about four hours of sleep this afternoon and I feel surprisingly awake, especially given that I awoke with smut on my brain. (No jokes, please. Thinking about sex usually makes me fall asleep, to tell the truth. I've lost more interesting seduction scenarios that way than I care to think about. "So then he draws her in for a slow, tantalizing kiss...all the reasons she has for keeping him at a distance seem to melt away in that moment...and then...zzzzzzz.....")
Hopefully I'll crash much earlier tonight. Though if I get on a writing roll again...I like to surf those waves as far as I can take them, 'cause they don't come often.
At least I have a decent amount of food in the house again, even if lack of items is keeping me from the thing I wished to cook tonight. Oh, and there's apparently a pizza-and-hoagie place around the corner from my house. I noticed it on the walk back from the market, a direction on my street I hadn't walked before. It smells good. The walk overall smelled good; I've missed the smell of the green. Tress and plants and earth and a natural cycle that doesn't include grass-only lawns or dying trees with roots achingly wrapped in concrete.
So I have art to draw and art to redraw and an Erik to call and con journal to write and the rest, along with the general needs in living day to day. So, what is my next stop? Probably sign into WoW for a bit; I'd like to see what Aaron is up to. And see if I can find Norcumi on ysera, 'cause I don't have her Terrokar characters listed and I'd like to swing by, say hi, and tell her Aaron's up for the pvp idea. I'll probably make another sandwich first, though, as I am hungry and just bought some smuckers strawberry jam.
...Damn you, Hanabi, get out of my head! I'll get to you eventually, kid, I promise.
