Mar. 20th, 2004 12:12 amSo, the plan to get up early and do work didn't happen, I woke up early, felt too shitty to get up.
Got into studio around four, started the kiln and popped the arms in (I did finish them on time, hurrah! and they haven't fallen apart yet!), then went to work on Eclipse. Managed to actually get her done in record time, came home to find regina asleep, went and had a burger for lunch at Winsteads, and then headed B&N to get some books for research, and maybe a DVD or two. This is spring break, dammit, and I'm going to at least get some frivilous enjoyment for a few hours of it.
But Barnes and Noble is right near the movie theater, so I decided to see what times Hidalgo was playing.
it was 7:15 and there was a 7:20 showing, I took this as a sign. got in, got a good seat, and cried during the opening sequence when it first shows him racing through the trees. I miss riding that much, I guess. that'll be #32 on the list of things to do in San Antonio; find someplace with horses. and I don't meana cheap tousirty place. This is Texas, granted its not Kentucky, but it's gotta have horses somewhere.
I enjoyed the movie. glad they didn't overplay the romantic elements springing up between Frank and Jazira. (cool looking actress, she.)
so, after word I go to B&N, and find some books of the right sort, and spend forever lookign through the DVD and manage to find a few I like (just keep repeateing to yourself: you didn't do anythign else for spring break, and half these books are for class. Yeah, you might have eventually bought them anyway given your obsession for world mythology and folktales, but still)
and then they are closing, boo. I start back home and there si drumming on the way. It is very good drumming, a guy with drum set and a gril and a guy with an African style each, and thery are melding styles like butter in a pot. I drop a buck, get a "thank you", and am about to start off again when the beat catches me. And I think, what hurry am I in?
So I sat and grooved for a while, and then a circle kind of formed up from other people, and eventually a couple girls (one at least was an acquaintance of the drummers') were talkign into dancing. it was something between capoeria and salsa, and hella-cool.
Afterward I talked to the girl drummer and her roomate-friend, (Amanda and Amber) and Amber swears she knew me from somewhere. Maybe UMKC campus? no, for I a KCAI student.
We chatted a bit, I felt very social, and the thought of drum circles get me very....much in the heart.
that'll be #33 on the to-do list after moving. learn to be social and find some place where they circle.
It was a beatiful and warm night out, perfect breeze, hyacinth flowers and drums. mmmmm.
went back to studio and turned up my kiln, and managed to catch the last free cab home 5 minutes later.
and now, for a movie.
