The Barracuda: before you lurk off completely, can you post the link to where the pics of the characters from your series are? I know I ran across them before, but the link got deleted and I have no clue where I saw them before, and I know I've seen them outside of Josh's icon project.
Wyvern 994: It rides too much- the guilt, that is. Hakon was the most repsonsible; he shattered the clan. Demona and the Captain next in line, they handed him the opportunity, and their later cowardice kept them from trying to their fullest to prevent the massacre. (Demona could have told Coldstone and his mate, and the rest of the clan, to flee; if she had time enough to flee, so did the others. She chose her own safety/life over than clan. The captian stood by and watched it happen, choosing his own safety/life over the clan's life as well.) Princess Katherine's attitude was a strong component of why the Captian and Demona decided to come up with the plan in the first place. Goliath's pride kept the plan from going into effect, and saving the clan- from the situation Demona and the Captain had maneuvered them into.
Would the clan have lived if Goliath had taken Demona's advice and taken them with him, instead of allowing his pride to believe he could handle it on his own? (Altho, the vikings *did* flee when he and Hudson alone attacked) Yes. Except, possibly, for the eggs in the rookery and the young children that were supposed to be around at the time. There is no promising the Vikings wouldn't have found and destroyed them while sacking the castle. We all saw how well the Captain kept his promise to protect the clan.
If the Castle hadn't been betrayed by the Captain and by Demona, the gaurd would have most likely fought off the Vikings. Again, their is no promise that they would have won, but cutting their bowstrings and such certainly caused them to lose.
True, the clan could have been destroyed eventually by an attack, because Goliath's optimism honestly made him think the humans would eventually see the truth and greet them as equals (which they did, although the cost was awful high) and he wished to stay at the castle until this happened.
And if Princess Katherine had a different attitude, the humans of the castle most likely *would* have.
As it was, Goliath's attitude *did* save the clan...if he'd taken his people and left- either as part of Demona's plan to betray the castle, or at some - eventually they would have been hunted down during the gargoyle purges a century later.
